Come Celebrate Pentecost on May 11
Sunday, May 11 is Pentecost Sunday, the end of the season of Easter and the celebration of the beginning of the church. At this time we remember the gift of the Spirit given to the church as Luke describes it in Acts 2. Join us in worship on this special day as we receive the Holy Spirit and celebrate the sacrament of Baptism with some of our young people. The liturgical color for the day is red, a reminder that the Spirit came as “tongues of fire” upon the church. Let’s all wear red on Pentecost Sunday as a reminder of the ways the Spirit of God fills Union Christian Church even now!
Faith Matters: Bible 101
Have you ever wondered why there are four gospels? Or why there are so many different “versions” of the Bible? Or why there are some books in one Bible and not in another? Have you ever wondered about how to read the footnotes at the bottom of the page? Or who wrote what books? Or how the Bible came together in the first place?
If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, we’ve got the class for you! Beginning on Sunday, May 11, Rev. Troy Tatum will begin teaching a new topic in the Faith Matters Sunday School class: Bible 101. For six to eight weeks we will explore together the questions above, along with other basic skills and knowledge for studying scripture. If this sounds like something you’re interested in, join us in the former toddler room for Sunday School at 10:00 AM beginning May 11. One more thing…be sure to bring your Bible!
Union’s Annual Barbecue Set for May 17
The BBQ is almost here! Check out the itinerary here. Helpers are needed to pick up firewood, put up tents, wash pots, cook, clean, serve, and every other thing you can imagine. Contact Don Truluck or other CMF members to let them know what you can do. Also, please see Jack Thomas if you need tickets to sell, or to buy yourself. The church office also has a limited number of tickets on hand. Let’s get ready for another great event!
